Yea, Nay, or Eh? Madonna Suits Up

Diane von Furstenberg was in London last night toasting the addition of hotelier to her long list of credentials. She was on hand to open the suite of rooms she designed at Claridge’s hotel, and the London contingent came out in full force to celebrate, including Victoria Beckham (who was rumored to have changed her vacation plans so as not to miss the fête), Gwyneth Paltrow, and Madonna. The Material Girl went Material Gent for the evening in a wide-legged black suit, paired with a structured blouse and navy fedora. She threw in a few femme touches to keep her just this side of drag—namely, red lips and a belt to accentuate her waist. Maybe she’s got menswear on the brain with the European shows going on now—her friends Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana just celebrated their 20th anniversary in menswear in Milan, after all—but whatever the cause, we’re feeling her for-the-boys look. What do you think? Do you like how she expressed herself, or was her look over the borderline?

In The Swim With Posso And Costume Department

As anyone heading to Glastonbury next week ought to know, packing for a music festival is no joke. You’ve got to take your rain gear, your sleep gear, your bug spray, your drugs…as in prescribed drugs, medicine. And then, of course, you shouldn’t forget your one-off collaboration on a collection of swimwear and accessories. That’s the lesson to be taken from Marylouise Pels and Vanessa Giovacchini, the designers and DJs behind the L.A.-based label Posso. Prior to heading up to Coachella this spring, where they were set to spin a few events, the Posso pair found themselves chatting with their friend Shawn Kaleka, of the brand Costume Department. “He threw out this idea, maybe we could make you a special outfit for Coachella,” recalls Giovacchini. “So I texted him back, well, why don’t we do a collaboration? It was really supposed to be, like, an outfit.” Instead, Kaleka and his partner Shaun Samson wound up working with Posso on “Space Safari,” a range of swimsuits, cover-ups, belts, cuffs, and spats that will be available next month via http://www.80spurple.com and on www.possouniverse.com. “We have all these vintage bathing suits we love, and we started with the idea of adapting those old high-waist cuts,” Pels explains. “But then Shaun came up with the idea of the neon netting, which brought along this whole futuristic feel.” Giovacchini and Pels are heading out on tour this summer, so it’s entirely possible that more innovations will come as they plan for that trip. “We do design for our lifestyle,” notes Giovacchini. “Which maybe isn’t the most normal lifestyle.” “But,” adds Pels, “it is normal to us.”

“Very Bad Cops” Paris Photocall – Eva Mendes In Christian Dior

Sometimes it’s the attitude, sometimes it’s the styling, but I get really disappointed when an amazing look is made to look ordinary off the runway.

That’s how I felt when I saw Eva Mendes her Christian Dior Fall 2010 mint dress at the “Very Bad Cops” Paris Photocall earlier today.

Her dress which she pairs with nude peep-toes appears to be longer, which maybe another factor as to why I’m not head-over heels about her look.

I can’t help feeling like something is missing, but I struggle to figure out what.

The dress doesn’t need a belt, it’s embellished enough to work without adding jewels yet I’m still missing something.

WAG-Less World Cup

The 2010 World Cup kicks off today in Johannesburg with host South Africa playing Mexico.

As a huge football fan I’m really excited that I will get to watch 3 matches a day for the next couple of weeks.

Whilst I’m excited, I’m also sadden because the English WAGs have been given red card by manager Fabio Capello.

They have been banned from staying at the players hotels after their antics at the 2006 World Cup, and as a result high profile WAGs such as Coleen Rooney and Alex Curran have said they will stay at home.

Oh how I will miss the WAGS changing at least 5 times a day knowing the paparazzi are following their every move.

This would’ve been their chance to step out of Victoria Beckham’s Queen WAG shadow as she is staying at home despite David being in South Africa as the official England mascot.

I bet Alex Curran will be devastated not to share her Balmain bikinis with the world.

Jessica Chastain In Marni For H&M – Marni For H&M Collection Launch Party

At an event with everyone wearing the same collection, Jessica Chastain managed to stand out at the Marni for H&M Collection launch party held in LA on Friday evening.

The Oscar-nominated actress wore a sleeveless tribal-print dress from the upcoming collaboration, detailed with a bold black v-neck.

Jessica cinched the dress at the waist with a Marni for H&M belt.

The look was simply accessorized with a pair of black platform sandals and a casual updo.

This look doesn’t appear in the look book, so it could be a custom piece.

The Cosmopolitan Magazine Party

Amanda Bynes does what she does best. Gives us something we’ve seen or feel we’ve seen before.

With her Pencey little black strapless dress, that same hairstyle, the black clutch and the black pumps, it’s like ground-hog day every time she steps onto the red carpet.

I’m dying for her to shake up her style. The last time she wore a different silhouette or anything past her knees was at the SAG Awards back in January 2008.

Amber Heard looked red hot and current wearing an Alexander Wang ensemble. This look consisted of a white caged top with a black fitted caged skirt.

Her look was completed with a pair of Chloé bow embellished sandals and a large waist belt.

Amber hair has now become bleach blonde from the lighter blonde locks she sported a few weeks ago. Although this colour gives her an edge, I prefer her as a brunette.  I’m sure her eyebrows would agree.

Kristen Bell always delivers something fresh. She’s not one to follow others and hop on the latest trends. Her look is always consistently fabulous and effortless.

I’m most impressed with her cute fuschia pink 3.1 Phillip Lim dress with a oversized collar which she accessorizes with a multi-coloured Topshop clutch and sparkling Jimmy Choo heels.

Ashley Greene opted for an off-the-shoulder blue BCBG Max Azria dress with a burst of floral prints.

This is the first time I have seen Ashley’s hair styled in a loose updo.

I’m loving the confident stance of Leona Lewis in this picture. It’s been a long time coming.

The Brit singer looked stunning in a blue plunging neck long-sleeved Elie Saab Fall 2008 dress, with dove grey heels and NO TIGHTS. This is a first.

Her figure is amazing. So delightfully curvaceous.

On The Set Of Gossip Girl With Blake Lively Wearing Mike Gonzalez & Topshop

Blake Lively and Chace Crawford were spotted on the set of Gossip Girl yesterday, which is currently being filmed in Venice Beach, California.

My girl was glowing wearing a yellow and pink Mike Gonzalez Pilar wrap dress.

The dress was paired with lime green Louis Vuitton Monogram Vernis Alma bag, tan open-toe Roger Vivier ankle boots plus chunky coral and mustard necklaces.

There are a lot of zesty colour combo’s working here which I love, but the shoes aren’t working for me with this look.

Blake’s second look was a Topshop lemon floral twisted top which she wore with skinny jeans.

Gold Repetto Bb metallic ballet flats completed her look.

Who Wore Marios Schwab Better? Sienna Miller or Cheryl Cole

Sienna Miller attended a screening of “The Mysteries of Pittsburgh” in New York City back in April wearing a Marios Schwab red dress.

The dress was massively modified from the runway to exclude the crystal-embellishments in the fold-detailed on the bodice and skirt.

Sienna wore her hair in a messy updo pairing her dress with black tights, black peep-toes and red lippie to match her dress.

On Sunday night Cheryl Cole appeared on the “X Factor” wearing the same dress with the sparkling crystals.

She kept her legs bare and added leg-lengthening Brian Atwood platforms.

As much as I didn’t like Cheryl’s hair, I much prefer her embellished dress as it had a bit more pizazz about it so she wins for me.

Ellen Von Unwerth Goes Au Cinéma

The Cannes Film Festival doesn’t start until next Wednesday, but Ellen von Unwerth opened the season unofficially last night with the inauguration of her Cinéma exhibition at Le Bon Marché in Paris. On display were pictures of almost every red-carpet fixture of the last 15 years, from Catherine Deneuve to Nicole Kidman, Eva Green to Marion Cotillard—and the most recent entry, a shot of Juliette Binoche (a member of this year’s jury) kitted out as a flight attendant, which was taken only last week. Whirlwind preparations came together in under two months, said von Unwerth, who wore her “one and only” Alexander McQueen dress and a leather jacket for the occasion. Actress Ludivine Sagnier and photographer Dominique Issermann swung by to toast the hostess, who has a second project to celebrate this week: her book of photographs of the German football team, called Die Spieler (The Players), is being published today by Bertelsmann. How’d the stars of the field measure up to the usual suspects in front of the lens? “It was a lot of fun; they knew exactly how to behave,” von Unwerth laughed. “They were better than models.”Le Cinéma d’Ellen von Unwerth runs until June 19 at Le Bon Marché, Paris, www.lebonmarche.com.
